To glorify God through the obedience of Scripture, loving our neighbourhood and serving Christ through worship as a lifestyle.
SOCIO ECONOMIC PROGRAMME PARTNERSHIP
Our church has partnership with CAST. This is a ministry of the Westville Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jean-Ray Knightonn-Fitt. CAST (Church Alliance through Social Transformation)
FOOD PARCEL MINISTRY
CAST's food parcel programme has been running since 1998 and now distributes food parcels on a monthly basis to a total of in our community. Individuals or families sponsor each food parcel.....volunteers pack and seal them....they are stored in a central distribution warehouse on the CAST premises and finally distributed into our communitiy by Church volunteers. Recipients are assessed and must comply with specific criteria to ensure that parcels only go to the most needy homes. The food parcels were originally designed by a dietician to feed a family of four for ten days. Each parcel contains maize, beans, sugar, peanut butter, salt, soya mince and milk powder.
Poverty and disease affect more than just health: many people are emotionally and psychologically broken, not knowing where to turn for help or how to regain a vision for their lives. CAST operates a counselling centre from our church to help people cope with grief, HIV, rape, teenage pregnancy and poverty -- helping them gain access to government grants when applicable. CAST manages the training and oversight of counsellors to ensure that our centre is run professionally.
Food parcel recipients and other people with particular needs are also visited and assisted in their homes by community workers and lay counsellors.
Sports are well known to provide one of the best forms of diversion and entertainment for youth, keeping them away from crime and irresponsible sexual behaviour, as well as providing skills, discipline and a sense of self-worth. Coaching is a convenient way to engage volunteers in community outreach, as minimal training and a limited time commitment is needed. Sport also helps to build bridges between people of different backgrounds. These relationships can become a critical step in long term economic and infrastructural development. Our sports programmes currently include basketball and soccer.
